This year's films:
Bikepacking the Sultanante of Oman (Ricard Calmet, Spain, 13 min)
A bikepacking adventure that explores the mountainous heart of the Sultanate of Oman. Alba and Ricard embark on a 1000km journey that will take them through deep gorges and unusual mountains that rise between the sea and the desert. Water is scarce and climbs are steep, but they experience firsthand the warmth and hospitality of an ancestral culture.
It Has Become Beauty Again (Austin Smock, Utah, 4 min)
Jon Yazzie was born on the Navajo reservation. He struggled to connect to his cultural identity for much of his life, leading him to make the wrong life choices and lack a sense of belonging. It wasn't until he discovered bikepacking and made his way back to the Navajo reservation that he could regain that connection and feel at peace with himself.
Gaëlle on Tour: Whiteout (Gaëlle Bojko, France, 9 min)
"In February 2020, I spent a month cycling across frozen Lake Baikal. The cold, the ice and the snow drew me there. I can’t explain precisely why I enjoy being in these landscapes so much but I feel comfortable in these wintery places – despite the cold, the harshness and the solitude. I love the silence, the muffled sounds, the light, the seeming steadiness that I find very soothing.”
4 Countries, 4 Bikes, 1 Day (Frederick Joseph Garnerone, Italy, 15 min)
A group of friends went on a quest to see how many countries they would be able to cross in one day only using bikes. Frederick Joseph Garnerone is a Canadian-Italian student who is our first-ever teenaged director.
Bikepacking Munich Nice (Peter Baumeister, Germany, 32 min)
Two friends are crossing the entire Alps bikepacking from Munich to Nice following the highest possible mountain passes. Will they make it to the Mediterranean Sea?
Mr. Sisyphus (Jedi Joongoo Kang, South Korea, 8 min)
One man's quest to find his meaning in life. Based on Albert Camus's interpretation of the Greek myth of Sisyphus, a little bit of Moby Dick and a father's recovery from his hip replacement and being able to ride his mountain bike again for the first time in 7 years.
All Bodies on Bikes (Zeppelin Zeerip, Utah, USA, 13 min)
Kailey Kornhauser and Marley Blonsky are on a mission - a mission to change the idea that people in larger bodies can't ride bikes. The duo aims to make cycling more inclusive, beyond just inviting people of all sizes to ride bikes, but by changing the entire idea of what it means to be a cyclist — not just on screens, but on trails and in people’s minds.
Distant Dharma (Annemarie Hennes, California, USA, 16 min)
In March of 2020, world-class endurance athlete Rebecca Rusch set out to ride a fat bike 350 miles across the frozen Alaskan wilderness.
The Iditarod Trail Invitational promised the challenge of a lifetime but after an early mistake, Rebecca's race takes on new meaning before she emerges from the trail into a global pandemic.
The Nomad (Brian Vernor, California, 5 min)
“I’m not from here. I’m not from there. I’m from everywhere. And I belong there.” – Erick Cedeño
