the Sugar Shack Spin
March 21st, 2020

Get your sweet tooth on!

Let's face it, winter in New England can really drag. Fortunately, it's got a few things going for it, one of which is Maple Sugar season. Forget that corn syrupy type stuff; we're talking the real deal straight from Mother Nature.

Maple Syrup.
Maple Sugar Candy.
Pancakes.

Did we mention the fresh, locally tapped maple syrup?

Welcome to the third annual Sugar Shack Spin, your excuse to fill yourself up with pancakes and maple syrup and feel completely justified about it!

This year, we will have two different routes to choose from:

Maple Sapling Meander:  This is the shortest of the two (roughly 15 miles total) and designed for those folks who want to get your pancakes and get on with your day! We will be starting from JFK Middle School in Florence and visiting   Steve's Sugar Shack  mid-ride with a pancake lunch planned before returning to the start!

When: Check in between 11:45 am and 12:15 pm, with ride starting at 12:15 pm
Where: Starts at JFK Middle School in Florence, MA, visits Steve's Sugar Shack
Route: Roughly 15.5 miles, includes route marking (http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/967631413)
Includes: Lunch (see below),   DRINKmaple water,   organic craft sparkling beverages from Maple Mama, and free 6 month introductory membership to   Adventure Cycling Association

Medial Maple Meander:  At roughly 25 miles, this one will also stop first at   Steve's Sugar Shack    for a pancake lunch but then go on to visit Paul's Sugar  House (think maple sugar candy for dessert) before returning to the start. This route will start slightly earlier than the shorter route.

When: Check in between 10:45 am and 11:15 am, with ride starting at 11:15 am
Where: Starts at JFK Middle School in Florence, MA, visits Steve's Sugar Shack and Paul's Sugar House
Route: Roughly 24.5 miles, route not marked,  (http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/967628573)
Includes: Lunch (see below) and samples at Paul's Sugar House,   DRINKmaple water, organic craft sparkling beverages from Maple Mama, and    free 6 month introductory membership to   Adventure Cycling Association

IMPORTANT NOTES:

-We will have a vehicle visit each of the Sugar Shacks to pick up any purchases you make to deliver them back to the start. Please ask the Sugar Shack to label them with your information!

-The Maple Sapling Meander (the shorter route) will be marked with route markings, but the Medial Maple (the longer of the two routes) will not. For both routes we will provide cue sheets and you can download GPX files for your GPS unit from the route pages. We will also provide an emergency cell number for a vehicle on route.

-All routes are tentative and could be changed due to weather or road conditions. We will be checking them the day before the ride and could make last minute adjustments.

-If you decide to switch the route you'll be riding, no problem, just let us know beforehand so we can let the shacks know and plan accordingly!
